The Perfect Recipe for Mallorca Bread ... Sorry, Snail Buns

Making Mallorca bread at home will fill your kitchen with enticing, warming aromas. The process is simpler than you might think. With just a few ingredients and a little patience, anyone can create these tasty buns. Here’s a straightforward recipe to get you started:

Ingredients:

Ingredients

2 and 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

120 ml warm water

180 ml warm milk

115 g melted butter plus extra for brushing on the bread

70g sugar

1/4 tsp salt

3 large egg yolks

440g Strong Bread Flour

1 tsp vanilla extract

Icing sugar for dusting

Method

In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Allow it to sit for about five minutes until it becomes foamy.

Next add the eggs, melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and gradually the flour until you have a soft dough.

Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead the dough for about 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic

Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour or until it doubles in size.

Once risen, punch the dough down and roll it into a rectangle. Roll the dough up snugly from the short side and cut into 9 slices

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C)

Place the buns on a baking tray, cover, and let them rise again until doubled.

Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.

Allow your buns to cool and brush your freshly baked snail buns with melted butter and dust them with powdered sugar.
